Background/History: A Journey of Empowerment and Transformation

Juanita DeSouza-Huletey's story is one of resilience, determination, and a commitment to empowering others. As an immigrant, she has called Canada home for over 33 years, with more than 27 years of experience in management and leadership positions. Her experience illuminated the challenges immigrants, especially from minority groups, face in climbing the corporate ladder. Her journey has been marked by challenges, but she has emerged stronger and fearless. As a black immigrant woman and mother of 3 sons, Juanita faced unique hurdles in her path, navigated numerous adversities, fostering resilience and strength beyond her expectations. She's weathered storms that tested her, broke her, and ultimately built her into a formidable force. Her experiences taught her to rise above adversity, wipe away her own tears, and keep walking in a positive direction. She learned to rise from setbacks, finding strength in self-reliance and maintaining integrity at the core of her actions. She reached a point where she realised that her hard work and accomplishments were often undervalued due to others' fears and biases. Her focus shifted from proving herself to disrupting norms and empowering the marginalised.
